The mobility of the program includes:

  • Exchanges of students to perform 2 to 6 month internships
  • Exchange of Ph.D. and M.S. student and scientists including post-doctoral research associates
  • Week-long study abroad programs for undergraduate and graduate students

Within the food science industry, chances are great that French and US graduates will interact within an international environment. The next generation of scientists involved in food production will need to make key decisions regarding the environmental impact of food processing, yet specific programs and coursework do not currently exist to adequately prepare these students to solve these complex problems.

The training and exchanges offered through the alliance will help to develop professionals that are capable of meeting the requirements of French and US companies by educating undergraduate and graduate students, and scientists, with knowledge and comprehension in alternatives to conventional food processing within the context of sustainability, including environmental consideration with understanding of engineering concepts such as energy consumption, waste management, and life cycle analysis.

Internships and Exchanges through the SFP Alliance are only available to students currently studying at Iowa State University or at a partnering French institution
